The secondary campus consists of grades 3-11. We have an accelerated program to enhance students’ academic preparation. 60% of the students are taking classes above their grade level. Students have a wide array of elective courses. Our electives emphasize professional performing arts; utilizing band, theatre, dance, and choir.
Shereen McKenzie began her educational career at Texas Empowerment Academy in 2012 as the 8th/9th grade Science teacher. Throughout her seven years of teaching, she has gained experience in many areas of expertise as she has served in various capacities. Ms. Mckenzie’s roles included lead science teacher, Teacher Mentor, Campus Testing Coordinator, and Assistant Principal.
Shereen McKenzie received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Huston-Tillotson University in 2011 and returned to HT where she earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership with her Principal Certification in 2016.
Her educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that all students can learn when given a positive learning environment, a strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused educational team, and most importantly an encouraging community, and a supportive family.
