What is a charter school?
A Charter School is a tuition free public school designed to be flexible, innovative, and invigorating in the educational arena. Students are accepted regardless of background or academic record, on a first come, first served basis. Charter Schools offer a private school environment in a public setting. Texas Empowerment Academy is a place where expectations are high and we believe that all students can learn.
How is a charter school different from a traditional public school?
Charter schools operate under a contract (or “charter”) with a state, district, or other authorizing body. They have more flexibility in terms of curriculum, teaching methods, and school operations. This autonomy allows them to innovate but also requires them to meet specific performance goals. Traditional Public Schools, on the other hand, are governed by school districts and must adhere to district, state, and federal regulations. They typically have less flexibility in terms of curriculum and operations.

What is the tuition cost at Texas Empowerment Academy?
There is no tuition for any student.

Our elementary campus teaches grades K – 12th.
What makes Texas Empowerment Academy different from other charter schools?
In addition to using experience-based learning to teach core subjects like math, science, language arts, and humanities, we offer special day-long programs focused on human development and self-awareness. Does Texas Empowerment offer transportation?
Limited transportation is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To inquire about transportation, reach out to info@txea.org.
Does Texas Empowerment have residential requirements?
TXEA accepts students from the entire Austin metropolitan area as a charter school.
Admissions
How do I apply to the school?
Apply to Texas Empowerment Academy at texasempowerment.org. Access the application under the “Enrollment” tab.
What are the eligibility requirements for admission?
Anyone who is a Texas Resident can apply for admission.
Is there a lottery system for admissions?
Yes, we have a lottery system to proceed to the Enrollment process.
When are the application deadlines?
Returning Student Registration starts every year in February. New Student Admissions start in March.
What documents are required for the application process?
- Copy of Birth Certificate
- Copy of Social Security Card
- Copy of Immunizations/Original Waiver (Note: All Kindergarten and 7th grade immunizations must be current)
- Verification of Address (utility bill, lease agreement, etc.)
- Copy of Parent/Guardian ID/DL/Passport
- Previous School Withdrawal (can be waived during summer enrollment)
- Previous School Transcript (ALL students 9th -12th grade)
What is the enrollment process for new students?
- Upon receiving an approval letter, applicants have 14 business days to complete the following – or they will be placed on a waiting list
- Complete New Student Registration Packet
- Submit required documents
- Sign up for Orientation
- IF STUDENTS ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL – Schedule Admissions Meeting with HS Principle and Superintendent

What are the school hours?
Early Drop-off Begins at 7:15 AM
School Begins at 8:30 AM
School Ends at 4:00 PM
After School Program is from 4:00PM to 6:00PM

How can parents get involved with the school?
Parental involvement strengthens the school community and enhances students’ educational experience. Parents can get involved with the school in several meaningful ways:
- Join the Panther Parent Group– Participate in meetings, events, and activities to support the school community.
- Volunteer– Offer your time and skills for classroom activities, school events, field trips, or as a guest speaker.
- Attend school events– Show your support by attending school functions like open houses, performances, and sports events.
- Support at Home- Stay involved in your child’s education by helping with homework, encouraging reading, and maintaining regular communication with teachers.
- Provide Feedback- Participate in surveys, parent-teacher conferences, and other opportunities to give feedback and share ideas for school improvement.
Are there volunteer opportunities available for parents?
Yes! The principals and teachers share volunteer opportunities as they become available.
